The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee 2 June 2012
We closed Water Lane and had a street party from lunch time to tea time. Everyone brought food to share. The children had free reign of the street, playing football, then a more organised game of longball, which puffed them out. There were also pavement drawing competitions, crown making and a quiz about flags of the commonwealth; the answers for this turned out to spell Buckingham Palace. Commemorative Mugs were given to all young children and sold to others. We finished off with the cake competitions, with Tara Wilding and Amanda Brazier being the winners. Most cakes were then eaten with relish (some were saved for Sunday at church). The street was cleared in no time, but the children continued to enjoy it for some time later till it was re-opened.
