Art Group

Meets on Monday afternoons from September to April. Contact is Alison Cullen, 869778. Here they are about a year ago, on a public Facebook page. We do not know who is hiding! The group welcomes new members, from expert to novice.

Somerford Keynes Bowls Club

Bowls has changed to afternoons, 2pm start every Thursday. If you would like to try bowls, why not come along one Thursday and try it out? The club held its Christmas Dinner at the Trouble House on Friday 15 December with 21 members present. The AGM was held on the second Thursday in January, followed by the Roy Cadwallader Trophy competition. No change of officers, but the subscription was slashed. Now you can afford to join us! Chairman Maureen won the trophy. We have reluctantly withdrawn from competition in 2018, as we are unable to guarantee enough players, so we do need more members! The short-mat club meets on Thursday afternoons for informal games. All ages are welcome. If you know nothing about bowls or are already a good player, we would like you to come and join us. Please phone our team captain, Des Sheen on 860469. The club usually has a summer break from end June to  end August.

Bridge Clubs

There are two bridge clubs that are quite different. Tuesday Bridge is a friendly affair where you can learn the basics of duplicate bridge, and is a good starting place if you have recently learnt bridge or if you just want a friendly evening without the other team breathing down your neck about the rules. Tuesday Bridge is short of players, so we welcome new players of any standard. We meet in the village hall at 7.15pm and finish before 10pm. There is no membership fee and only £1.50 per person per evening. Contact is Muriel Watkins 861614. Wednesday Bridge is more formal, and you need to be reasonably competent, but don’t worry if you are not an expert. You will not get eaten. There is the opportunity to play in simultaneous EBU events and earn points, but no pressure for you to do so. There is a membership fee and a small charge per evening. Contact Mary Harris 861222. Upholstery classes have now stopped. However the skills have been transferred, so if you need upholstery done, ask around, and you may find someone who can help.

Parish History Group

Contact Judy Monger. See History pages The group is considering how to make its studies more generally available. At present much is stored on a CD which may be purchased for a small sum.

Wine Society

Contact Donald Stewart on 869231 for future activity.

No we don’t play it in the village hall, so it appears on the to do outside” page!

A Quiz in the village hall on Saturday March 10th raised £400 for church funds. We have had a number of notes of appreciation for an enjoyable evening, even  from those that found some of the questions a bit of a trial.
See the new Village Lake page for how you can enjoy it, and help maintain it.
